Beyond its wings, each type is connected to two other types by the inner lines of the Enneagram symbol. These connections are called arrows, and they show how your patterns tend to shift: one arrow points to where you go under stress, the other to where you go as you grow.
The stress direction, also called disintegration, is where you tend to go when demands pile up and your usual approach stops working. You start to take on the less helpful traits of that type, often without noticing. A Nine under stress, for example, can become worried, suspicious, and unusually reactive, much like a Six on a bad day. Recognizing the shift is the first step out of it.
The growth direction, also called integration, is where you go when you feel secure and are actively developing. Here you draw on the strengths of another type, which balance out your own. A Nine in growth moves toward Three and becomes more focused, energetic, and willing to put their own goals first.
Take the test to find your type and see where your arrows point.
